Frequently asked questions
The answers to the questions parents ask us most. Can’t find your question? We’re happy to help.
What exactly does a midwife do?
A midwife supports you during pregnancy, birth and the period afterwards. Alongside the medical follow-up of mother and baby, a midwife also offers a listening ear, practical tips and emotional support. At Juno we do this at home, in your own familiar surroundings.
From when can I call in a midwife?
Really from the moment you feel you’d like a midwife by your side. Even early in pregnancy we can already mean a lot to you. The sooner we get to know each other, the longer we can support you. Later in pregnancy you’re just as welcome.
Do you work together with my gynaecologist or hospital?
Certainly. Midwifery care complements the medical follow-up by your gynaecologist or GP, it does not replace it. We coordinate with the hospital caring for you and refer on in a targeted way within our network of care providers where needed.
What does a midwife cost and is it reimbursed?
We work as non-contracted (“gedeconventioneerde”) midwives: on top of the statutory rate paid by your health insurance fund, we charge a supplement. These costs are often (partly to fully) reimbursed via your hospitalisation insurance, depending on your policy. You get the full price list from your midwife.
In which region do you come to homes?
We are active in 16 towns in the Kempen: Mol, Balen, Dessel, Retie, Geel, Kasterlee, Lichtaart, Oud-Turnhout, Turnhout, Merksplas, Baarle-Hertog, Zondereigen, Ravels, Weelde, Poppel, Arendonk. For each town we have a separate page with the midwife(s) working there.
Do you also come across the border into the Netherlands?
We are Belgian midwives and provide care at home in the Belgian border towns such as Baarle-Hertog, Poppel, Weelde, Ravels and Merksplas, close to Baarle-Nassau, Reusel and Goirle. Do you live just across the border? Get in touch and we’ll look together at what’s possible.
Do I always get the same midwife?
You are followed by a fixed midwife from our team, so continuity and trust can grow. We make sure you see at most two different midwives. During weekends and holidays a colleague takes over the on-call duty, which we always communicate in advance.
Are you reachable in the evening and at weekends?
We are reachable daily between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. by phone or WhatsApp. We have a 7/7 care guarantee: there is always someone available for home visits. In urgent medical situations or at night, please contact the hospital directly or call 112.
Do you attend home births?
Yes. Within our team, midwives Laurine and Liese offer birth support, with assistance at a home birth or one-to-one support at a hospital birth. This is possible on specific request and is discussed together in advance.
Do you offer breastfeeding support?
Certainly. Support is provided by your midwife at home, with the help of lactation consultant Laurine when extra expertise is needed. From September 2026, Loes and Liese also start their training as lactation consultants.
What does postnatal care involve and how often do you visit?
After the birth we visit daily up to and including day 5. After that you have 6 more home visits (or more if prescribed), which you plan at your own pace until your child is 1 year old. We monitor mum’s recovery and the baby’s health, and support you as a family.
Do you also offer pregnancy massage?
Yes, midwife Eline gives pregnancy massages in her practice room in the Pijlstraat 12 in Retie. A massage takes 75 minutes, costs € 90 and is possible from 12 weeks of pregnancy.
How do I book an appointment or introductory meeting?
Call or send a WhatsApp message to the midwife of your choice, or email vroedvrouwjuno@gmail.com. An introductory meeting is entirely without obligation: we come to your home, get to know each other and look together at how we can support you.
